2011 St. Pete Times Top Workplaces in Tampa
Horizon Bay Retirement Living was among the 70 Top Workplaces in Tampa Bay. Top Workplaces leads the way in measuring the health of US companies based upon employee opinions. In the midsize category Horizon Bay was ranked 10 out of 25 companies on the list.
2011 Best of the Best Awards from the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) - In 2011, Horizon Bay Retirement Living won the prestigious Best of the Best Award, a national award recognizing innovative best practices. This year Horizon Bay won the award in the Physical Plant & Environment category for its innovative EcoFriends program developed by its Facilitations Maintenance Services team.
2010 Best of the Best Awards from the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) – In 2010, Horizon Bay Retirement Living won two prestigious Best of the Best Awards, a national recognition reserved for the nation’s most innovative and effective business practices in the senior living industry. These awards honored two separate innovative programs, both developed by the resident programming team at Horizon Bay.
National Mature Media Awards, 2010 – For the second year in a row, Horizon Bay received multiple National Mature Media Awards. In 2010, seventeen awards were announced in multiple categories, including: Brochure/Booklet, Calendar, Direct Mail, Marketing/Advertising Campaign, Graphic Design, Newspaper Ad, and Special Event. The award-winners were evaluated for overall excellence of design, content, creativity and relevance to the senior market.

2009 Trendsetter in Senior Living - The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) and Assisted Living Executive magazine honored Thilo Best, Chairman & CEO of Horizon Bay Retirement Living, as a 2009 Trendsetter in Senior Living. Featured in the March/April 2009 issue of Assisted Living Executive, Thilo was recognized for exemplary leadership, vision and service in the senior living industry.
2008 Best of the Best Award from the Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA)- This award recognizes senior living companies for the most innovative operational excellence strategies. Horizon Bay was recognized for its signature LiveWell! Lifestyle Programs & Events.
Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of the Year® 2007 Florida - Thilo Best, Chairman & CEO of Horizon Bay Retirement Living received this award in the health services category. This award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who are building and leading dynamic growing businesses and who demonstrate excellence in innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
2005 Best Places to Work from the Tampa Bay Business Journal- This award recognizes those companies that put in the extra effort to create a workplace that fosters success and growth.
2004 Best Practices Award from The National Council on Aging Health Promotion Institute- One of four winners nationwide, Horizon Bay was recognized as a national leader in the field of health promotion.
National Mature Media Awards, 2003 & 2004- These special awards recognize the nation’s finest advertising, marketing and educational materials designed and produced for older adults.
2003 Governor’s Newcomer Award- This prestigious award recognizes Florida companies in emerging and high-technology industries for their contribution to Florida’s economic growth.
Industry Innovator 2003 Honorable Mention Award from the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA)- This award recognizes excellence and creativity in the health and wellness field.
"Matter of Balance” Falls Prevention Program- This program has been proven effective in changing perceptions and behaviors about falling for older adults. Horizon Bay was the first national seniors housing operator to make this program a company-wide initiative.
Mind Aerobics Program- This innovative memory enhancement program is designed to help participants enhance their memory and improve their power to concentrate.
