How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
12 years

What do you like best about your job?
Knowing that you are making a difference is someone’s life.

What do you like to do in your free time and why?
I like to play racquetball, bike riding, and swimming.

If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
I think it would be the President. He has a leadership style and self-regulation that I admire.

What’s your favorite movie and why?
Shawshank Redemption – It tells a story about how if you are creative and innovative you can overcome anything.

What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
Any kind of stir fry Japanese food. I like the blending of the sauces and the vegetables.

In what ways do your residents inspire you?
You can gain a lot of wisdom from their life-long experiences.

Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
At my welcome reception, one resident said to me: “Whenever you are feeling bad, just remember how beautiful this day has been. That really meant a lot to me.”

How do you honor your residents at your community?
By respecting their opinions and remembering that everyone is different.

Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story?
One of my past residents flew the lead plane in D-Day. It was remarkable to have known him.

Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
Upon arrival this woman was completely confused and could not articulate a sentence. We eventually discovered that she was never sleeping. Working with her doctor, her family, and our staff we were able to adjust her lifestyle so she began to sleep again. Within a few weeks, she began to speak again and could be easily understood.

In what ways do your employees inspire you?
I love watching how the staff constantly exceeds my expectations.

How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
By providing a clear vision for the future, setting expectations, and celebrating successes.
