Meet Brian
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
Knowing that this age group has experienced many wars with many losses and yet they were able to survive all of that not only inspires me but also commands great respect for them.
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
When I started at Pocasset Bay Manor, which has many Italian residents, I had taken over for Ben, a nice Italian young man. One of the residents came up to me and said “If you want to make it at Pocasset, you need to dye your hair black, put a vowel at the end of your last name and call yourself Tony.” We have had a great friendship from that time on.
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
We had a resident in assisted living that when he moved into the community he was very dirty, underfed and had a bad outlook on life (his wife just passed away). The nursing staff and operational staff took him under their wings and turned him around in less than 30 days. He is doing very well as to date.
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
Since 1996.
What do you like best about your job?
Meeting new people and learning about their interests, likes and dislikes.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
Spending time with my wife (13 years married) and two children. My son Tyler is 10 years old and participates in soccer, basketball and baseball. My daughter Jaime is 8 years old and she plays soccer and participates in gymnastics as well. Aside from running back and forth from field to field to view their games, I coach baseball and basketball with my son and soccer with my daughter.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
I would like to go back in time and meet my Dad as a young man, find out what he was like and if all the stories he had told us growing up were true.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
“Hoosiers.” I love the underdog stories.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
I love anything Italian, hot or cold at any time of the day.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
The consistent hard work they do, the way they are constantly dealing with difficult situations and always having a positive outlook.
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
Working with them in their department, I would never ask a staff person to do something I would never ask myself to do. Having lunch with them, talking about topics outside of work, i.e. sports, food, music, movies. Being a good listener.
At Horizon Bay, we understand that deciding where to live is a big decision that deserves careful thought. We invite you to visit us, stop by for lunch or be a guest at one of our special events or classes. We look forward to meeting you.
