Meet Terri
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
I can remember a resident, Connie, who was so positive and full of life
and never let anything get her down, told me at age 85 years old she
was going to find herself a boyfriend.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story?
I had the pleasure of meeting one of our residents who was 106 years
old. Her life story was incredible. She was able to share with me her
life when there was only a horse and buggy!
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
Eight years.
What do you like best about your job?
I love hearing about resident’s lives.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
I love shoes! So, my free time is typically spent on hunting for those perfect pair of shoes.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
Love the movie “Clue.”
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
Anything chocolate.
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
When residents share with me stories of their lives it inspires me.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
The ways our employees inspire me is when I hear them talk about never missing a day of work in seven years or getting up at 5 a.m. to catch the city bus to be at work by 8 a.m.
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
Listening to all employees and giving them the opportunity to voice their concerns or best practices, leaning on each other to achieve success gives the community a family atmosphere. We need each other to be successful!
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
We have many employees who embody our core values but several associates come to mind that represents teamwork.
Patricia, receptionist, has worked at the community for 10 years. She knows every resident’s name and is beloved by all who come across her. She is the true definition of what Horizon Bay stands for!
Alma, wait staff, has worked at the community for nearly three years. She is liked by all residents and by her peers.
Barbara, housekeeper, has worked at the community for seven years. She is willing to go above and beyond when asked. She trains and assists new associates in her department.
At The Terrace at West University, we understand that deciding where to live is a big decision that deserves careful thought. We invite you to visit us, stop by for lunch or be a guest at one of our special events or classes. We look forward to meeting you.
