Meet Sharon
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
Their strength, their hope and undying zest for life.
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
Not any particular resident, but as a group: On September 11, 2001, when my generation stood witnessing the horrible disaster through the media, our residents slowly assembled along with our staff in front of the television and literally carried us through one of the most devastating events of our lifetime. They encouraged us with hope and strength that we could go on as a nation and could heal and become stronger and more loving through this tragedy.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story.
We had a resident who was a prisoner-of-war for many years. Each year on his wife’s birthday, he and other prisoners gathered their rations—enough to make one meager birthday cake. He and the other prisoners symbolically celebrated her birthday and other prisoners’ loved ones birthdays at this clandestine event. When he was finally released he carried on the tradition of always baking her a cake for her birthday.
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
A typically younger resident came to us because he needed daily dialysis, was wheelchair bound, depressed and had basically given up hope for maintaining an independent, healthy lifestyle. Since living here, he has gained strength and energy from his socialization with other residents, feels he is a part of the community, and is supported by a multitude of staff members. He says he is on “top of the game of life” and enjoys living every moment here.
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
For 19 years.
What do you like best about your job?
Working with people and making a difference.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
Period antiquing for Mission-style antiques. I like the simplicity of the major change of the Victorian Era to the simple, clean-cut style of Mission.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
Walter Cronkite. I admire his personal professional style.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
Lasagna. It was the first dish I ever learned to cook.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
Every day I have the opportunity of being with a group of people who love what they do and they share it with others.
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
We have a diverse population between residents and staff and we regularly co-mingle celebratory events with staffs’ families and residents’ families. On holidays we have staff and their families join us for holiday meals.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
Arleene, our receptionist, plays a significant role in the day-to-day lives of our residents along with playing a significant role in being the first point-of-contact with potential residents, family members, vendors and staff. She has a positive impact on the lives of each person she meets or works with. When a phone call comes into Carrington Pointe, Arleene never fails to answer it with a smile in her voice. She was recently honored at our 20th Anniversary party as the longest employee of Carrington Pointe. Arleene has a talent for remembering the names of former residents, their families, and all essential (and non-essential) past history of Carrington Pointe. She has seen many changes that have encompassed her 20-year career –never faltering, always accepting.
At Carrington Pointe, we understand that deciding where to live is a big decision that deserves careful thought. We invite you to visit us, stop by for lunch or be a guest at one of our special events or classes. We look forward to meeting you.
