Meet Lynda
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
The way that they interact in life. Even though they have lost love ones, had health issues, they still show up and play the games, sing, dance, party and make friends. They have taught me not to take myself so seriously!
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
As a 23-year-old right out of college, I was hired as the activity director in the very first retirement community I worked at. A resident named Charlie thought I was too young for the job. I had replaced a woman who was in her 50s and all of the residents really liked her. He organized a petition to have me relieved from my position. I was hired in January and in July of the same year, I had my son Chase. Charlie had come to realize I knew what I was doing and while I was in the hospital he had his daughter bring him to see me and he brought me a handmade china vase filled with miniature roses he’d grown. I can still see him coming into my room and I still have the blue vase.
How do you honor your residents at your community?
By taking the time to listen to them and hear what they are saying. By treating them like family and respecting the lives they led prior to moving into our community and encouraging them to keep on enjoying what life has to offer.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story?
A former resident who immigrated to America from Russia when he was 20 years old came to New York with two nickels to his name. Through hard work and determination he built a thriving rug business in Memphis and a wonderful loving family. He would always tell me the story about the two nickels every year. I always admired him for how hard he worked and how much he loved his family.
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
A resident named Vive told me recently that she loved living at Town Village Audubon Park because before she moved in she would eat cookies for dinner all by herself and now she enjoys a hot meal with wonderful friends.
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
I’ve worked in the retirement industry for 24 years.
What do you like best about your job?
I enjoy the family atmosphere at the community and the relationship interaction between residents and staff.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
I enjoy doing things such as working in my yard, painting, home repair projects and the like.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
My grandfather Houston Gibson Moorman. I would like to introduce him to my son, Houston Chase Sullivan, and see the smile on his face.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
“When Harry Met Sally” because I am a hopeless romantic and it has a very happy ending.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
My mother’s Texas sheet cake…total chocolate pleasure from the first bite to the last bite! WONDEFUL!
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
Through their kindness that they show daily to our residents and family members. Even when they are confronted by harsh words, they respond with kindness.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
My maintenance director, Tommy. He has been with this community since it’s opening in 2001. He is very dedicated to delivering excellent customer service and sets the example to his staff and others. He is always patient and understanding regardless of the situation he is in. He demonstrates excellent management skills through his dedication to his team and is always willing to help other departments and other team members. From staying late to finish an apartment for a quick move-in to dressing up like Elvis for a resident activity.
At Town Village Audubon Park, we understand that deciding where to live is a big decision that deserves careful thought. We invite you to visit us, stop by for lunch or be a guest at one of our special events or classes. We look forward to meeting you.
