Meet Casey
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
How long have you worked in the retirement industry? I have worked in the retirement industry since 1990.
What do you like best about your job? Working with people that also enjoy caring for others, along with our seniors that possess so much wisdom.
What do you like to do in your free time and why? I love being with my crazy teens! We are an adventurous group when we are together.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why? I love reading books about people that possess hope against all odds. For example: Christopher Reeve, Michael J. Fox, and Lance Armstrong.
What’s your favorite movie and why? Giant, Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor, and TEXAS?? What a classic life-long love story.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why? Anything made in my own kitchen with love and care.
In what ways do your residents inspire you? Their tenacity to make decisions that are definitely outside a comfort zone. It’s very hard to leave a home of 30 years, hoping for a better life in a small apartment.
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share? My grandmother was one of my residents. That was the best memory of my life, taking care of my own family.
How do you honor your residents at your community? How do we NOT honor our residents!! There are many ways that make a difference in our residents life, and it happens daily.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story? Once, I had a resident in an apartment tell me a heart wrenching story of how his grandson was killed the night before in a freak accident, but that his organs were donated. Then, I had a resident directly across the hall, who was so excited that her son was receiving a heart transplant!! We all eventually learned that by some twist of fate, the grandson’s heart was used for the son’s transplant. It gave great comfort to all of us that something so tragic could end up offering great healing and comfort. I felt so lucky to be involved in such a moving experience.
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community. Oh, there are so many stories for this. Seldom is it that a resident actually does worse when receiving socialization, routine meals, activities and monitoring. I am so proud of what our industry does for seniors.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
Their creativity to get results without a resource available to get it done. Our staff have so many abilities to use limited resources to take care of their own needs and also the needs or their extended family—our residents.
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community? Music and smells are the best way to bring comfort and atmosphere. We try to entertain the senses as best as possible.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork. The managers here keep me laughing constantly. They have worked together as a team for many many years. When I first started, it made me uncomfortable how they bicker and banter! But I came to realize that they would do anything for each other, they help each other more than any team I have ever worked with, and they are truly a family of brothers and sisters.
