Meet Shawn
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
How do you honor your residents at your community?
We treat our residents with the respect that they deserve, and we seek and value their wisdom.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story?
I have many! One would be Bill, also known as "Chief." He is a retired Navy man whom I have become friends with, he lived at another community that I worked in before joining Horizon Bay. Chief has since joined me here at Newport Place. He is a great ambassador for our community and he helps me a great deal. He was a POW for four years during the World War II. He is a true hero!
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
I think there are many cases here in our community where our residents who embrace our LiveWell! Program have improved their quality of life.
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
Ten great years.
What do you like best about your job?
I really enjoy meeting people and learning about them. I have shared in some great stories.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
I like to fish and take walks. We live in a great area for the outdoors.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why? Probably Vince Lombardi. He was such a great motivator of people. I would have liked to experience one of his famous pep talks.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
"Gladiator" with Russell Crowe. I can watch it over and over. It had a very poetic ending.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
Chocolate cream pie is my favorite. I like it because I have great memories of my Mom’s special pie.
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
I have many! One would be a resident named Marshall. He has a very interesting background in business. He takes the time to share his wisdom with me and it is greatly appreciated. Marshall helps me look at things from a different perspective; the perspective of an individual who has accomplished many great things and is looking forward to living well for tomorrow.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
I am very proud of my team here at Newport Place. I am simply inspired by their compassion.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
My facility manager, Ed, exemplifies all of those qualities. This comes from an employee who treats our business as if it where his own.
At Newport Place, we understand that deciding where to live is a big decision that deserves careful thought. We invite you to visit us, stop by for lunch or be a guest at one of our special events or classes. We look forward to meeting you.
