Meet Mary
Executive Director
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story.
It is so hard to choose one resident with a remarkable life story. I have known concert pianists, ballerinas, and a woman pilot – there have been so many wonderful residents. The most awe-inspiring life story was from a resident who was a prisoner of war and the ordeals he had to endure and his return to freedom. Also I have spoken to so many residents who have contributed so much in the way of volunteering in their communities.
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
Our local hospice referred a resident to us who had no family and was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He lived with us for almost six months before passing on. I know that he became everyone’s dearest friend – both staff and other residents. He was always joyful and full of laughter and he inspired others to spread kind thoughts and deeds. We will never forget his courage and strength. I believe his life was enriched by living here because his goal was to spread happiness to others and he certainly did!
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
Almost twenty years. However, I was always close with my grandmother and really enjoyed spending time with her and her friends. In fact, many of her friends still stay in touch with me to this day. So I’d have to say most of my life!
What do you like best about your job?
My residents are almost like family. I could not envision ever doing anything else but retirement living.
What do you do in your free time and why?
I love spending time with my family. However, since my mom is a resident here at my community I often can be found on my “time off” still in the community and available to residents, families and staff.
What is your favorite movie and why?
‘Second Hand Lions” – Everyone deserves second chances and families do come in all sizes and shapes – it’s the love and the connection that matter.
What is your favorite dish or dessert and why?
Since my husband is Italian and loves to cook, I’d have to say any kind of pasta!
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
By their faith.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
Their loving spirit when caring for our residents. They always go the extra mile because they say ‘if this were my Mom, Dad…” I would expect to be cared for like this.”
