Meet Winsome
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
I am inspired by their ability to keep going even when all is lost. When they find joy in the simplest things.
How do you honor your residents at your community?
One of the greatest things about our community is the small size. This allows us to honor our residents in several ways. We have a resident spotlight in our newsletter, birthday celebration, recipe and or craft of the month.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story?
Taylor, formerly a successful automobile dealer in his native Detroit. He is a man of many talents – an attorney-at-law, a champion bowler, and a low handicap golfer. He also has 14 songs published and is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
15 years
What do you like best about your job?
I enjoy making a difference daily in a resident or employee’s life.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
Spending time with my two girls (ages 2 and a half & 16) and their entourage. I enjoy being with them and helping them discover the world.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
Maya Angelou because she has inspired me in my teenage years and has continued to do so. I just love her voice.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
“When a Man Loves a Woman” with Meg Ryan because it’s a story about hope and how her family never gave up on her.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
Tiramisu! Yum. I am a coffee choc-o-holic and when ever I have this dessert I feel warm and soft inside.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
Francisca is am employee who truly exemplifies Horizons Bay’s core values. She has been at the community for over 10 years. She owns every request and never gives up until all is resolved. She is an excellent team player who leads our new employees very well. Whenever she is off from work, the resident express that her presence is truly missed.
At Heron’s Run, we understand that deciding where to live is a big decision that deserves careful thought. We invite you to visit us, stop by for lunch or be a guest at one of our special events or classes. We look forward to meeting you.
