Meet Betty
Administrator
The administrator, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the administrator's story:
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
I have been in the Health Care Industry for over 25 years.
What do you like best about your job?
The sense of fulfillment I see when residents have met their goals and are able to go home, the peace on a loved one’s face when their family member calls the facility home, and the contentment I see on a possible new resident’s family member when they realize we can meet the needs of their loved one and they no longer need to worry.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
Traveling – I have been to London, Paris, Hawaii, Alaska, and many Caribbean Islands. Shopping is another passion – if I hear the rustle of a bag – I am in my element.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
Mother Teresa – she was always looking to help others. I would have liked to sit down and talk with her.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
“The Shawshank Redemption” – I love Morgan Freeman and the parts that he plays. I believe this to be his best movie and it provided a lot of lessons.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
Sushi – when I was first introduced to sushi, I refused to try it. I finally got brave enough to taste it and now don’t know how I lived without it.
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
Some residents have such a wonderful outlook. It makes me think that things I worry about are very small in comparison.
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
A few years ago when the movie Titanic came out I was talking with a few residents and one resident shared with all of us that she was 19 years old when it sank and talked about how everyone was so distraught over it. She was 109 years old.
How do you honor your residents at your community?
We honor our residents with dignity and respect.
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
One resident came to us and was unable to walk due to an accident. After rehab and our nursing care she was able to go home. Just this past week she came back to visit with us and thanked everyone for the wonderful job they did to help in her recovery.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
They inspire me by doing what they do on a daily basis. It takes a special kind of person to work in the health care environment. I love to see staff work towards higher goals and support C.N.A.’s who want to become nurses or a LPN who wants to becomes an RN or to see a Diet Aide become a Cook or a CDM..
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
We are a family team and treat each other that way. We are there for the happy times – like weddings and births of children, as well as the troubled times – like the loss of a loved one or a spouse losing a job. We support each other and are there for each other – both at work and beyond. New associates are welcomed with open arms.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
I have one C.N.A. that comes to mind and she is a combination of all of our core values. Residents that have left but come back to us months or years later ask if this employee is still here and want her taking care of them.
