Meet Jane
Executive Director
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
I started my career about 20 years ago and have worked in different positions while working up to my present position.
What do you like best about your job?
I like the way my leadership impacts the lives of not only the residents and their families, but the staff as well.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
As the ED of a busy community, I don’t have a lot of free time, but I do enjoy spending what time I have with my children.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why? I would like to meet JFK because of the role he played in the push for equal rights.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
The Notebook of course because it is a story we live in our communities every day.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
My favorite dish is dessert and I prefer to start every meal with it.
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
The strength the residents needed to survive some terrible times in our history inspires me.
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
Picking up a resident from the hospital at 2am because he wanted to come home and sleep on his bed.
How do you honor your residents at your community?
We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries for our residents. We also like to have a Life Celebration when we lose one of our residents.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story.
Papa was on the first baseball team in Pasadena, Texas and helped to create surround-sound. He will be 103 this year and we look forward to celebrating many more birthdays with him.
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
There are so many residents who have blossomed after coming to live with us. Sybil is one of them – wanting so badly to go home and having such a difficult time adjusting. All she needed was the opportunity to “work.” Sybil is our resident Librarian, which is something she has done most of her adult life. Sybil is proud of her library and her name badge, and is eager to go to work every day and help others enjoy her books. Now that she has a purpose, her life is once again joyful.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
My employees struggle every day to make a living and a home for their families. They inspire me daily as I watch them make their dreams come true.
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
We are family in our community. We celebrate each others’ achievements and share each others’ sorrows. We push each other to achieve the best in our lives.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
