Meet Bill
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
Since early 2006, starting in Round Rock.
What do you like best about your job?
Witnessing my residents becoming happier, healthier, and more involved in the community.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
I like to play with old cars, and spend as much time as possible with my young grandchildren.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
Paul Newman – He achieved almost perfect balance in his long and productive life – family, profession, hobbies, charity, and friends. He was loved by all.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
The Big Sleep – The best movie of all time. Raymond Chandler- writer, William Faulkner – screenwriter, Howard Hawks –director; and starring Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
Baked Lasagna; and Tiramisu. Comfort dinner and dessert.
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
I continue to be inspired by the many paths that my residents have travelled, each leading to our community, where they can live amongst friends and be close to their family.
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
I have many, but they are most personal.
How do you honor your residents at your community?
By understanding their life, respecting their knowledge and experience, and by encouraging my staff to treat each resident as they would a member of their family.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story?
I had a resident and his two sisters, all living with me, that had grown up on ranch outside of Kerrville, Texas. This gentleman had hosted American Presidents from Roosevelt to Bush for hunting trips on his ranch, and could tell you stories until you hollered, whoa!
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
I had a gentleman move his mother into our community some years ago. She was suffering from dementia, and had been living alone for some years in a small town, refusing all assistance. She had poor health, poor diet, and all of the signs of self neglect.
Once she came to live with us, she gained weight, made some friends, and had a weekly date with our psychologist to sit and have an ice cream together. She always remembered that appointment, even though she could remember little else.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
They work hard every day, with a caring heart. They celebrate each time a new resident shows signs that she is in her new home, and is going to be happy with our care. They are the best.
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
We ask each staff member to treat all residents, and each other as if they were all part of the same family. Take care of each resident as you would your own mother, father, grandmother, or grandfather. Live that everyday, and you will succeed.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
We have so many great examples here. I am constantly reminded by my contact with families and residents in our community, that the Care Staff is the heart of all that we are here.
