Meet Mike
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
I have worked in the retirement industry for 8 years.
What do you like best about your job?
I really enjoy meeting the residents and their families and making their stay here at Town Village the best it can possibly be.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
I enjoy playing music, as well as spending time with my family.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
That would be my Grandfather. He was a WWI Veteran, where he lost his left arm. He passed away five years before I was born. Before he passed, he had written a small memoire that talked about all the things he had lived through. I have so many questions that I would like to ask him.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
Forest Gump, because it is the ultimate “underdog” story and everything seems to work out great in the end.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why? I like any dish that is spicy.
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
The residents inspire me because they have lived through so much and have such a great outlook on life.
How do you honor your residents at your community?
I feel the best way we honor our residents is treating each and everyone with respect and dignity.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story?
One of our residents told me a story about how he joined the Armed Services. He said that jobs were hard to come by and he was told that there was an opening at a factory. So he went down and spoke with the supervisor. The supervisor said: "I think you will work out great here," and to report back next week to get started. Our resident said, “I had thirty dollars to my name, but I was so excited about landing this job that I headed down south for a few days to see family”. When he returned that Monday to report for work, the supervisor pulled him aside and said: “Sorry kid, I had to give the job to my bosses nephew.” Our resident thought to himself, “What am I going to do?” He said that he walked down the sidewalk, headed home and when he turned the corner he saw a big sign that said “Uncle Sam wants you.” He said that was it, and he went into the office and enlisted. He said it was the best thig that could have happened.
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
One of our residents had told me that when she was at home she didn’t get much exercise, which resulted in having to take medication for her high blood pressure. She said while living here she has been participating in our exercise programs, and her doctor has seen a great improvement in her health, even telling her that she doesn’t need to take the medication any longer.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
I feel our employees always go above and beyond to make the residents feel at home and comfortable.
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
I feel that having a family-like atmosphere is one of the most important aspects to our community. I want all the residents and their families to feel comfortable about talking to me regarding any concerns good or bad. We do this by having an open door policy, as well as interacting with the residents on a daily basis.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
Gail, our Business Office Manager, embodies all of our core values. Gail is wonderful about sitting down with the residents and/or their family member to talk about their accounts.
