Meet Randy
Executive Director
The executive director, along with our friendly and professional staff, strives to create positive, stimulating ways for residents to continue living life with meaning and purpose. We are a friendly family where we treat residents like real people with real life stories.
Our community is a great story that includes heartwarming chapters and incredibly unique characters all in a wonderful setting. Here is the executive director’s story:
How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
18 years
What do you like best about your job?
I enjoy listening to the many life stories the residents have to share.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
I have a passion to play golf and enjoy relaxing on the beach.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
Arnold Palmer, he’s a class act and an ambassador of the game of golf.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
“For the Love of the Game” with Kevin Costner. The main character reminds me of my days on the field.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
Ice Cream, it’s my greatest weakness. I enjoy taking the kids on the weekend to the local ice cream parlor. At least that’s the excuse I use, “I have to take the kids”.
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
The inspirations I get from the residents are through their life stories about their careers, their families and the places they have lived and traveled. I have heard some of the most fascinating stories.
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
I once had a resident who was passionate for the game of golf, as I am. He had a stroke and lost the use of his left side, but was still determined to play the game. We went out to the driving range one evening to see if he could hit the golf ball with just his right arm. He did great, hitting the ball over 150 yards. He asked me to give it a shot, so I did. It looked as if he was giving me a lesson. The two of us looked down the driving range to find two ladies trying to hit the golf ball with one arm. The funny thing is they must have thought we were practicing a drill. We still laugh about that evening.
How do you honor your residents at your community?
I honor the residents by treating them with respect and dignity. I listen to their concerns and requests, but always making sure to follow through with them.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
The employees are very special. They require the right heart and patience to be a part of our community. I love the employees who come up with some of the most incredible ideas that enhance productivity and provide outstanding service above anyone’s expectation.
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
I do this by involving every manager and staff member with the daily happenings in the community. I like to involve the staff in the decisions that may affect their work. I love to celebrate the success and improve in the areas we can.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
We recently had a staff member retire after twenty years. Incredible!!! As we celebrated her years, and with the tears flowing down her face, we knew that the community, the residents and staff was a big part of her daily life and it was coming to an end. She had a passion for the work she provided for all of us.
