How long have you worked in the retirement industry?
18yrs.
What do you like best about your job?
The relationships I have built with residents, families, and people I work with.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
Anything I can do outdoors. I don’t like being cooped up.
If you could meet one person, past or present, who would it be and why?
Nancy Regan. A class act and a true caregiver.
What’s your favorite movie and why?
I don’t really have a favorite but I love action and suspense.
What’s your favorite dish or dessert and why?
I love Fried Chicken.
In what ways do your residents inspire you?
The stories about the lives they lived before we knew them and the things they have overcome.
Do you have any memorable experiences with a particular resident you would like to share?
Betty, a 98 year old resident had never made a snow angel or ridden on a motorcycle. During her 98th year she did both. She made me realize that you should live life to the full as long as you are alive!
How do you honor your residents at your community?
Highlight them in our newsletter, recognize their birthday, and help them utilize their personal talents.
Tell us about a resident with a remarkable life story?
I know a gentleman and his wife that clothed, fed, and provided refuge to WW11 German Soldiers that fled the war.
Tell us about a resident whose life changed for the better once they moved to your community.
We had a lady that was living alone in her home. She was not eating, going out anymore, and had lost touch with her social group. She moved in and became involved in our programs, goes to our meal, and has made many new friends.
In what ways do your employees inspire you?
The care they give to our residents is unconditional. I feel that everyone we interact with can inspire us, if you are paying attention!
How do you create a family-like atmosphere at your community?
First, you have to believe you are a family. Then you need to be genuine, treat everyone with respect and be accessible.
Tell us about an employee who embodies one of our core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, professionalism or teamwork.
One employee, Kay, goes out of her way everyday to be sure to visit any resident that might be feeling a little down that day. She visits them while keeping everyone else busy doing activities. She listens and validates how they feel and always leaves them with a smile and feeling better.
